A quick note from the author…
Don’t lie to yourself about what the best version of yourself is and should be! Be precise in your actions, and be forgiving to others and yourself. Never hang onto hate, and forgive all who wronged you, for hate loves to stall personal growth with the emotional imprisonment of wasting precise time. It will be incredibly hard, but accomplishing hard tasks makes hard people. Only you can make yourself the best version of yourself
We are going to go over all of the traits and archetypes for QB and cover what goes well together along with what you should avoid. The method you use moving forward should be customized based on your own personal situation. There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to QBs in Madden 23.
Another thing we will cover in this article is user-play and simulation traits and archetypes. Both are very different as certain traits have nothing to do with user-play since you are the one in control of the QB.

User Leagues
First things first, if you are in a user league, you want to get the guy with the fastest wheels. You want that guy who is a burner, someone who can escape the pocket and get you a first down or put your offense in a better situation.
With that being said, we would recommend going with a scrambler or improviser, one of the two. Then, work on his strong arm and touch base on the field general.
As a user, you will want to get a QB who is not very good. A QB’s awareness is all fluff for a user so it means nothing to you, so look for a QB who lacks awareness but has other ratings you need or that you can increase over time.
Simulation Leagues
If you are in simulation, you will want to make things as easy as possible for yourself. That said, Improvisor is a good start; even if your QB is a Scrambler, don’t work on Scrambler, work on his Improvisor instead. The reason is that you want your guy to be able to escape and get a first down with his legs.
However, the only issue with Improvisor is that when your team is very good, you do not want your guy escaping the pocket for no reason.
Once your team is good enough and ready for it, work on his Strong Arm. When he has Strong Arm he is going to be looking deep wondering who is open. Once your team is good enough, you know your offensive line will give your QB enough time to throw the ball.
Let’s say you’re in a situation where your QB is not a fast QB; it would not make sense to work on his Improvisor. Instead, work on his Strong Arm.
Best Traits for QBs in Madden 23 Simulation
We are going to cover what the best traits for QBs are in Madden 23 simulation. The following section is going to cover traits for user play, so skip to that if this doesn’t pertain to you.
- “Penalty” does not matter for simulation.
- You do not want the “Throw Ball Away” trait. You don’t want your QB throwing the ball away when he could have gotten a first down instead.
- The best “Sense Pressure” is Ideal. You want to stay away from Paranoid and Trigger Happy.
- For the “Forces Passes“, you are going to want Aggressive. If you have Ideal, you are going to want to work on this, but it is not a deal breaker.
- “Fights for Extra Yards” is a trait you want.
- “High Motor” is an added bonus.
- “Predictability” is another added bonus. This is more so for contracts.
- “QB Style” would ideally be Balanced.
- “Tight Spiral” is another added bonus but is ultimately not a deal breaker if he does not have it.
Touching more on “Sense Pressure“, Oblivious is not a deal breaker but it is something you want to work on. With the Paranoid trait, your QB will run backward for no apparent reason and cost your team a hefty sack. Finally, Trigger Happy can cause your QB to make some costly mistakes, so this is something we would not recommend getting.
